The fourth round had a few unexpected game results, with Randy who has no rating yet got the point against Daniel, and Isaac also had a win over Tony. Personally, I made 2 bad moves in a row, but well done to Antonio for taking full advantage. Randy and Gregory are the only undefeated players so far, and they meet in round 5. Just 3 rounds to go!

We had the first round of this event on Tuesday. It was pleasing to see some new faces, and a total of 38 players registered for it (over 7 rounds). Games mostly went with rating, though there were some hard fought or surprising results.

Congratulations to Bruce for another event win, half a point ahead of Dean and Tony.

Coming up is a lightning night next week. Then the following Tuesday, the Western Masters. The Western Masters is a new tournament for this year, which will run over 5 weeks. The players will be split into groups of 6 based on current ACF rating, with the top 6 playing a round robin, players 7-12 playing another round robin and so on. The final group will be a swiss given it unlikely that the field will split into even groups of 6.

Well, Bruce stopped himself in this round – he was sick, so Daniel won on forfeit! But, due to a quirk, within the pairing rules, Bruce and Daniel get to play in round 7! Sort of like groundhog day – even the same colours for them.

Please let Steven know if you cannot play on game night, preferably the day before or earlier, so your opponent does not have a wasted trip. We understand when your non-attendance is unavoidable, but show respect for your opponent, and assist when you can.
